ImageAono Jikken Ensemble will also be appearing Friday June 16th, 7 pm at the Northwest Film Forum [1515 12th Avenue on Capitol Hill. Phone:(206) 267-5380] as part of the opening celebration for A Man, A Blade, An Empty Road: The Summer of Samurai film series which will feature 11 classic films, many in new 35mm prints (more info: nwfilmforum.org). AJE will be performing new improvisations inspired by classic Japanese chanbara (swordplay) films which will be projected as the group performs.  This is part of Excavations in the Floating World: Japanese-Language Cinemas in Seattle, an evening of informal presentations, reminiscence and chat about Seattle's late and lamented Toyo and Kokusai movie houses which played all manner of Japanese films, including many great samurai pictures, during their heyday. Admission is $5 general and free for NWFF members, seniors and children.

Aono Jikken Ensemble (AJE), founded in 1997, explores new sights and sounds in experimental music and performance-based art. They create their unique sound using traditional Asian, western and world instruments, children's toys, found objects, invented sound devices and vocals. AJE is William Satake Blauvelt, Susie Kozawa, Michael Shannon, Naho Shioya, Esther Sugai, and Marcia Takamura.
