Oguchi-sensei dies in a car accident
Written by David Leong
Tuesday, 08 July 2008

ImageDaihachi Oguchi, leader of Osuwa Daiko, was struck by a car and died in Nagano, Japan. Oguchi-sensei was profoundly influencial in speading taiko throughout Japan and the world. He was an inspiration to hundreds if not thousands of taiko groups.

The New York Times has an obituary.

Rolling Thunder expresses our most profound condolences to Oguchi-sensei's family. Yuko and I had the opportunity to meet Oguchi-sensei in Nagano, and he was very gracious to us. The taiko community will miss his presence.

Emeryville Taiko has a large and beautiful dojo, but they don't use it 24-7.  They would like to offer it to others for rent when they are not using it for classes.  If your group needs a space for practice or classes, please contact Emeryville Taiko to see if we can work out a time for you. The dojo has mats and mirrors, and the freedom to make lots of noise!
